Before using them, you should dry them carefully. It will help you to keep them fresh for a long time. For the drying process, the best way is to use a dehydrator, but you can also do it with the oven of your home.

Steps of Drying Mushrooms
- Preheat the Oven
Before you are going to dry the mushrooms, you need to preheat your oven to 150F/65C.
- Clean the Fresh Mushrooms
Use some water to wash the mushrooms accurately. Though some people think they soak a lot of water, don’t go with that thinking. During washing the mushrooms, clean them by scrubbing with a mushroom brush or with a vegetable brush. It will help you to stay secure about the health.
- Slice the Mushrooms
Use a sharp knife to slice down the mushrooms which you have collected. Keep a measurement of 1/8 to 1/4-inch thick in the slices. Thicker slices require much time to be dried. If you are using the oven instead of a dehydrator, this is important for you. As you can keep them for hours in the oven.
- Blot and Arrange the Mushrooms
For perfection in your work, spread the cut mushrooms on a clean dishtowel. Now slowly and loosely roll up the towel and gradually squeeze to remove if there any moisture in the surface of the mushroom. Once you are sure that the mushrooms don’t have any moisture in the outside, now you can arrange them in the right manner. Make columns and rows to place the cleaned, sliced mushrooms on the baking sheet. During the process, be careful so that the pieces of mushrooms don’t touch or overlap.
- Drying in the Oven
This is the final part of drying mushrooms at home. Place the baking sheet in the oven and leave it for at least one hour. Turn the mushroom slices over. Now you can return them to the oven for another hour.
- Check the Dryness After Two Hours
After two hours, now you can pull them out from the oven. No need to check the dryness until they are cool. Cooling the mushrooms is an important step like cookies coming out of the oven. Once they are cool, now you can check the dryness of the mushrooms.
They will crisp up significantly as they cool. If you find that they are not dry enough, turn on the oven and keep the sliced mushrooms in the oven for another 30 minutes. Now, you will get the dry mushrooms for use for your cooking.
